1. Mildreds
Delicious food, stunning cocktails and ultimately immaculate vibes, Mildred’s takes the spot of Miss Jones’ favourite vegetarian restaurant in London. It takes on classically non-vegan dishes and shows us all how easy it is to eat vegan.
The first Mildreds opened on Greek Street in 1988. Their ambition was to serve delicious vegetarian food to the discerning inhabitants and nighthawks of Soho that was anything but bland or boring.

Fast forward over 35 years and they have expanded beyond their Soho base with restaurants in Covent Garden, Camden Town, Kings Cross, Dalston and Victoria, each offering fantastic hospitality as well as an adventurous menu of globally inspired food and drink.
Most importantly of all, they are no longer simply vegetarian, having gone completely plant-based in 2021. Whilst they may be bigger, their vision remains simple: fantastic food and drink for everyone, that just happens to be vegan, with an all-day and night menu that changes with the seasons. And it seems their guests agree, having named them London’s favourite vegan restaurant in 2023.
2. Tendril
Tendril names itself The (Mostly) Vegan Kitchen and aims to redefine Vegan cooking by putting vegetables back at centre stage. Stepping away from plant-based meat alternatives they are creating delicious and interesting menus with the ultimate vegan ingredient – veggies.
They are on a mission to showcase what’s possible in plant-first food. This means no fake meat or processed ‘plant based’ ingredients. They are not judging, it’s just not what they believe in.

What they do value are incredible plants, grown by real people, and sourced as close to the restaurant as possible.
Once in the kitchen, they give them the platform they deserve, using the right level of technique to elevate even the most humble of ingredients.
3. The Gate
A mostly vegan, and fully vegetarian restaurant nestled in the heart of Hammersmith, The Gate offers comforting food inspired by Arabic and Indian flavours. It is a down to earth restaurant with a down to earth menu, whose food feeds the soul.
The Gate was established in 1989 by Michael and Adrian Daniel, brothers who wanted to recreate the diverse flavours and culinary experiences they had enjoyed as children, eating food with Arabic, Indian and Jewish influences.

Michael and Adrian’s Hammersmith restaurant quickly became ago-to destination for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike and its reputation grew. Now widely recognised as one of the best plant-based restaurants in London and with accolades from around the world, The Gate is both a much-loved institution with a loyal and devoted following and a restaurant that has been quietly and confidently promoting healthy eating for 35 years.
This focus on healthy eating is part of The Gate’s holistic approach to its dishes: products are sourced as sustainably and locally as possible, and the carefully curated menu allows the delicate and unique tastes of plant-based ingredients to sing from the plate.
4. Gauthier Soho
Gauthier Soho is a classic French fine dining restaurant, with a twist. This fully vegan restaurant emulates traditional dining with wholly plant-based products, showing everyone in Soho that you don’t need meat to finely dine.
Set in the unique environment of an unmodernised Regency townhouse in London’s vibrant Soho district, Gauthier Soho evokes, like no other, the spirit of London fine-dining of an era now long since disappeared.

Passionate service, proffering courses within silver cloches, a steaming basement kitchen, sommeliers bringing wine and food partnerships to life with intricate precision, and on three floors above, intimate dining rooms buzzing with discerning diners.
Splice this with the most lively and refreshing modern French plant-based cooking and a twist of decorative kitsch and you begin to get the idea.
