What?
Soho’s Greek favourite Suvlaki have just opened their second premise on Brick Lane Shoreditch.
Where?
Suvlaki, 161 Brick Lane, E1 6SB
The Vibes?
Taking inspiration from the metropolis of Athens, the restaurant has taken on a decidedly slick urban aesthetic. We loved the contemporary marble theme from the menus to the table tops.
What we ate
As recommended by our wonderful server, the Courgette Fritters are little bites of heaven, with smoked applewood cheddar and nigella seed.
Make sure to order the Cheese Nibble from the small plates. Chesse Mastelo with sticky, sweet fig marelade parcelled in pita.
The tender octopus dish is served with traditional Greek Fava (a super creamy veggie dish made from yellow spilt peas) and garnish with a sprinkling of capers.
Try Suvlaki as skewers or in a wrap. The spicy prawn suvlaki was seasoned to absolute perfection with distinctive dill, and served with crispy kale and rose aioli.
Desert? Don’t worry we didn’t forget! We couldn’t resist the ‘Samos to Soho’ Cheesecake. An unsual mix of flavours including wild honey, candied ginger orange, meringue. But the Chocolate Biscuit Cake is one not to miss! Made from a secret mothers family recipe, this rich & fudgy slice finished the meal on a high (sugar high perhaps!).
What we drank
A craft of the crisp Greek Kokotos Agrimi.
We recommend
The spicy lamb chop is a must! Juicy and perfectly cooked with an abundance of chilli, zingy lemon and thyme flavours.
A welcome addition to Brick Lane, the food at Suvlaki is served with Greek hospitality and love. The dishes are as fresh and authentic and you would expect on a sun soaked Greek island.
