REVIEW: The Distillery Portabello

What?

The Distillery Portobello

The first gin hotel in London, this place consist of sleek cocktail bar the Resting Room, on the ground floor; a bright G&T emporium, GinTonica, above; and three bedrooms. But prepare to book well in advance, this unique accommodation is in high demand in the capital!

Where?

186 Portobello Rd, London W11 1LA

Smack bang in the centre of the Portobello road is The Distillery. Once, just s small gintitute above a local pub, Portobello gin have transformed this location into a gin lovers heaven. The gintitute is now at home in a vibrant blue new four storey palace.

 The Vibes:

Sorry to disappoint most, but we are not talking all thing gin this time round! ( watch this space though! we have some exciting gintansitc events at the Distillery coming up!) Our lunch visit was a gin-free affair so let’s take it from the bar to the table and talk about the food at The Resting Room.

What we Ate:

The menu in the Resting Room dishes up the best quintessentially British food in small tapas style plates, with some larger plate’s available including wholesome Yorkshire pork cutlet, and dry aged British rib eye. But for our lunch visit, we went for a number of the small plates. The wide selection accommodates all, and all ingredients at The Distillery remain loyal to local producers.

I loved the healthy smashed broad beans with tasty courgette fritter and Portobello Rd vegetables. For a meaty choice, the pulled confit duck is served on a bed of fried up cabbage pancetta and potato. I always struggle to resist ordering truffle parmesan fries, so it was a pleasant surprise to see a side portion of these on the menu! Other sides include buttered mash and cabbage with pancetta.

We Recommend:

Sough dough toast is The Resting Room’s hearty take on traditional egg & toast; piled with juicy mushrooms, topped with a duck egg and drizzled with truffle oil.

Our Thoughts:

Take hide away from the manic market and enjoy some of the delightful nibbles The Distillery has on offer.
