Where do you work?

Aitch GroupB

Describe your job in 3 words:

Challenging, rewarding, mothering

How did you first become a Personal Assistant?

I got headhunted and just went for it!

6

What’s the best part about your job?

That the title of ‘PA’ at a small company isn’t restrictive. You really can take on whatever you feel ready for as long as you have great guidance. From starting out with no PA experience I now deal with everything from raising finance, internal and external events, site purchased
and packed lunches of course!8

And the worst?

Managing constantly changing opinions / plans9

Describe a typical day; what work does it entail, what hours do you work, what problems do you face?

My contracted working hours are 8.30-5.30pm and I am very lucky in that we are not expected to stay in the office for hours late at night and going to the gym at lunch or in the morning has become the norm for the whole office. I don’t think any two days are the same for me or anyone else at Aitch due to the fast paced nature of the industry we are in. Some days are full of meetings and can barely look at my inbox and some days I might be the only one in the office and can crack on with all my own tasks. Unpredictable days is part of the appeal.

1

If I wanted to be a PA, what experience would you suggest I get?

Get experience in as many different offices you can from family offices, private companies and big corporates. The admin roles at each will vary tremendously and you can really get a feel of what sort of company works best for you before setting down roots.

1

What’s one of the most difficult situations you’ve faced whilst working?

Office drama / politics

1

Without revealing too much detail, what is the wackiest request you’ve ever been asked to do?

I was asked to look in to adopting an Asian orphan once

1

How do you find a healthy work/life balance?

Making sure you choose the right company and bosses really helps with this.

1

If money were no object, what career would you be in and why?

Trying out hotels and restaurants around the world for travel companies

1

What are your go to websites/resources that help you with your day to day tasks?

The best resource I have is an amazing solicitor! He has been with us for longer than I have and knows everything!

1

What key skills/courses would you recommend for other PAs looking to progress in their careers?

Excel, Event Management, Dealing with difficult people

1

Finally, any other advice?

Be confident!
