Diogenes the Dog Offer Home Sommelier Service
Diogenes the Dog, the neighbourhood boutique wine bar, shop and café in the heart of Elephant & Castle is launching a home delivery sommelier service, for those staying indoors.
Cooking a meal and not sure what wine to pair with it? Diogenes the Dog are on hand to not only share their expertise but also offer advice on choices and then deliver the perfect bottle of wine to complement the dish.
All guests will need to do is call Diogenes the Dog, describe what they’re cooking and the expert team will do the rest. The wine bar will give callers advice on pairings, styles, preferences all over the phone. Those dialing in will then be able to choose the bottles they would like to order (2 bottle minimum order) which will be delivered to the door, free of charge by Diogenes sommeliers (within one mile of the bar).
Spaghetti bolognese night?
Diogenes will recommend a unique wine to specifically complement the tomato-based sauce such as a Malbech from Castello Carboncine, Treviso in Italy. The light strawberry flavours and grippy tannins are perfect for the bolognese. The wine helps break the dish down, whilst the brilliant acidity of the wine stands well with the tomato base.
Cod on the menu today?
Owner Sunny Hodge would suggest a “Leirana” which is an incredibly mineral and crisp natural Albarino from Forjas del Salnes, Rias Baixas in Spain. It’s clean, no funk, just well made natural wine and one of the most standout Albarinos on the menu. It’ll really bring the more delicate flavours out of the cod, and the soft acidity if the wine would play well with the fish fats.
Those staying in will also be able to choose contactless delivery. Upon request the wine will be placed on the doorstep, drivers will call to say they are there and will wait until the door is opened and the wine is collected.
