TOREL PALACE PORTO IS A TIMELESS TRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST PORTUGUESE POETS AND WRITERS On the 1st floor, as you open the bedroom doors, you will discover the rich ceilings, worked in stucco, with portraits of illustrious Portuguese writers and poets such as Luís de Camões, and Barbosa do Bocage, Almeida Garrett, and Alexandre Herculano. From the beautiful facade to the magnificent skylight, passing through the stucco on the ceilings of some rooms, the historical and artistic value of the building is well known. Concept – Torel Palace Porto THE INTERIOR DESIGN The common spaces were designed to respect the history and antiquity of the mansion, creating a modern space. In this sense, the architectural structure was maintained, the intervention being more at the level of furniture, colors, and lighting, to enhance the beauty of the mansion and restore its splendor, as can be seen in the lobby, in the staircase or in the skylight that is, without a doubt, the ex-libris of the hotel. The interior design project was entrusted to Isabel Sá Nogueira, who has previously collaborated with other hotels in the group, including the Torel Palace Lisbon, as well as the common areas and some rooms at Torel Avantgarde. At Torel Palace Porto, the main challenge was to reconcile the building’s characteristics and its classic style with the comfort and convenience of contemporary decor. In the decoration of the rooms, the portraits painted by Jorge Curval reveal the identity of the authors who give the name to each room. But the most surprising element, which breaks with everything else, is the giant cubes, entirely covered in mirrors, planted in the center of some of the rooms. They look like an art installation, provoking a game of reflected images that can confuse the less attentive, but they have a very precise function: they are the bathrooms.
