The Little Scarlet Door

There’s a house party happening in Soho and you’re invited! The Little Scarlet Door, complete with kitchen, lounge, shower, laundry room and a whole host of loungey spaces, is now open on Greek Street. The latest offering from The Little Door & Co – the fun loving, London-born bijou group of bars famed across town for redefining the House Party genre – expect kitchen discos, late night cocktails, good vibes only and the ultimate flat party for those in the know.

Set across two floors, in the newly redeveloped Ilona Rose House on Greek Street, Scarlet is the first central London venue for the Doors and follows in the footsteps of three of London’s party stalwarts – The Little Yellow Door in Notting Hill, The Little Blue Door in Fulham and The Little Orange Door in Clapham.

BEHIND THE DOOR

Arrive at the scarlet door – painted in the perfect custom hue ‘The Little Scarlet Door’ as part of a collaboration with The Little Greene Paint Company – and leave a message for the flatmates on the Ring doorbell, before stepping into the bright and airy kitchen bar. A hive of activity, the kitchen’s open shelving is filled with pre-loved crockery, spice jars, holiday keepsakes, cookbook stacks and a custom scarlet and pink Smeg fridge, house-party-ready with chilled bottles of fizz.  In a step change for the group, and reminiscent of the urban apartments of New York’s Soho, there’s exposed pipework, raw plaster and concrete flooring. Metropolitan yet quirky, the space features a breakfast bar, hanging planters and a cosy fireside semi-private nook, perfect for long overdue catch ups.

Drink secured, head downstairs to the main flat, which features bi-fold doors, floor-to-ceiling tiles, exposed brickwork, plush velvet upholstered sofas and artwork – poppy, bright and thought provoking – curated by India Rose James of the inimitable Soho Revue. Peruse the flats communal vinyl record collection, park up for a shift on the PlayStation or, if a little private chat is in order, find yourself a cosy corner. Catch a glimpse of the loft mezzanine bedroom before making your way through the laundry room – excuse the underwear that’s drying, this is a flatshare after all – to the secret Vault, a semi-private hidey hole for up to 15 friends, inspired by Andy Warhol’s factory in New York and paying homage to the best NYC house parties of the past.

Resident DJs will be keeping things vibey Wednesday-Saturday, and no smoking out of bedroom windows here – instead, hold tight and make for the brand new al fresco terrace, which will open behind the flat later this year.

PARTY PUNCH, COCKTAILS & SNACKS

Drinks come in the form of sexy sharing cocktails served from the kitchen in vases, halved disco balls and mixing bowls such as the Dirty Dancing (Reyka vodka, Passoa, Chambord, passionfruit and prosecco) alongside signature serves such as Sex and the City, made with El Jimador tequila, Kwai Feh, Martini Ambrato, chilli, tarragon and lychee. The cocktail menu also features the signature House Punch, synonymous with any good flat party – a deadly blend of Bacardi spiced, Toti dark and Wray & Nephew rums with guava and fruit juices.

There’s also a range of premium G&Ts, long drinks and ‘shit hot tipples’ aka, the flatmates’ secret stash of finer spirits – we recommend the Goodfellas, a heady blend of Gentleman Jack, Glenfiddich Fire & Cane, Campari & Martini Fiero. A considered range of wines is available by the glass, flute or bottle, alongside draught and bottled beers and ciders.

A menu of the sort of snacks you might rustle up at home include the likes of house special popcorn, baked feta with truffle honey and Little Door’s famous toasties – think four cheese & shallot, or burrata with prosciutto, plum and almond pesto.

Where better for a private event than the home of the ultimate house party? The lower ground floor is available for exclusive hire for up to 130 guests, while The Vault can be booked for up to 14  – because sometimes a house party needs to be invite-only, right?
