Exciting design, inclusivity, good food and a playful atmosphere: these are the elements running through Mama Shelter’s DNA. Founded by Serge Trigano and his sons Jérémie and Benjamin, the brand shook up the hospitality world with a daring ‘urban refuge‘ concept in 2008, starting with its first, in Paris’ off-beat 20th district. ‘Mama’ quickly became synonymous with generosity, nurturing hospitality and just a sprinkling of cheekiness. Since then, she has extended her embrace across three continents, nine countries and fourteen cities, with more openings in the pipeline.

The Mama Shelter restaurant is a gorgeous, lively and vibrant space perfect for lunch and dinner in the heart of Shoreditch. The modern and stylish setting of the restaurant creates the perfect escape, it has the perfect combination of greenery, warm lighting, decorative ceilings and artwork which all compliment the french heritage inspired food really well. You can expect amazing service here with the most welcoming staff ensuring you are left pleased!

They have a large drinks menu including Mamas signatures, classics, jugs and a range of alcohol free drinks, we would recommend the Alcohol-Free Marinella which has a refreshing strawberry coconut flavour, perfect to start the evening. For starters the Confit Salmon Spring Roll is a must, its served with pickled ginger and wasabi soy sauce, the wonton wrap had the most amazing texture and complimented the salmon really well. They have so many amazing starters to choose from but another favourite of ours had to be the Spiced Crispy Squid, now you can never go wrong with crispy squid so its defiantly a safe option if you’re not sure what to go for, served on seaweed hollandaise it creates a unique flavour and left us excited for the main course.

If you are a seafood lover then the Grilled Swordfish will not disappoint, it has to be one of the best i’ve tried! Served with curried king prawns and coconut, coriander, lemongrass and ginger the flavours were spot on. They also have a few vegetarian options, we tried the Sweet Potato and Mushroom Burger which was full of unique flavours, the texture of the bun complimented the burger really well, add a side of truffle fries and blue cheese sauce for some extra tang! For desert we decided to go for the Mama Cookie which was served hot with a scoop of Vanilla Ice cream and the Dark Chocolate Brownie which had Raspberry coulis and Vanilla ice cream on Pistachio soil, both these deserts were amazing and completed our evening!
