Setting goals is something we’ve all done. It may come easier to some, but we could still use a little help when it comes to achieving goals. Here are a few tips for setting goals, staying on track and how to achieve them.
Make a plan: A well thought out plan will give you direction and structure. Make a plan and make sure you write down what you want to achieve and your time frame. The physical act of writing down a goal makes it real and tangible.
Make it your own: Every day, social media buzzes with others’ achievements. From promotions to buying first homes, accomplished goal setters like to let the world know. But if you want to set a goal that’s achievable, your starting point is really to make your goals your own. And that means not comparing yourself to others or wanting to achieve something because it is expected of you.
Be realistic: Being an executive can take up most of your time so you may wonder how you’re going to achieve your goals whilst tied to your job. But if you workout of a line of what you can and can’t do it’s a good place to start. It is important that you sit down with your executive to: clarify your career goals; communicate expectations; and establish boundaries. Be realistic and discuss what you are going to take on, plus what you will have to give up as a result.
Take a break: Give yourself a break from working on these goals occasionally. Taking a little bit of a break from your goals can be helpful. It allows you to refresh your perspective and not burn out. Take time to bounce back.
