Review: The Refinery Edinburgh

Dinner & Drinks in The Refinery

Located in the heart of Edinburgh in St Andrew Square.

The Vibes:

Part of the corporate friendly Drake & Morgan Group,  this central hotspot is always buzzing and swarmed with young professionals every Thursday and Friday night!

Take a peek through the floor to ceiling windows into the two-storey wonder, filled with natural timbers and signature Scottish details, including a striking Highland cow wall motif, fresh heather planters, tartan-backed chairs and rattan stags bedecking the walls. Fancy a tipple? Drinkers can stop off at the beautiful back-lit bar and sip on innovative cocktails, while those looking to dine can nestle into the cow-hide booths or the perfect date dining tables for two. Embrace the bustling environment at the marble counter set against the open-plan kitchen – with its deep orange tiling, luxurious leather stools and statement pendant lighting, the best chef watching seat in the house!

It is difficult not to be blown away by the show-stopping spiral staircase leading guest to the mezzanine level. Bathed in natural light and plenty of comfy seats to sink into, it’s the cities best spot for freelancers and creatives to get the daily grind done. Refuel with gourmet coffee and vitamin-rich smoothies, available throughout the day.

The outdoor terrace overlooking the square will become Edinburgh’s new playground with lush potted plants, warming blankets and plenty of hot water bottles to keep the party going, whatever the weather.

What we Ate:

From beautiful breakfasts and boozy weekend brunches, to power lunches and dinner dates, The Refinery’s all-day menus will hit the spot.

Lounge at lunchtime with small plates, stylish mezze boards and seasonal salads or indulge in meaty burgers and superlative sandwiches. Kick back come suppertime with famed Drake & Morgan favourites including meaty braised beef shin with polenta or the veggie butternut squash risotto. Classics of creamy Thai coconut curry with your choice of chicken or prawns or fish pie with a cheddar potato crust are ideal for big appetites.

Desserts of indulgent chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and classic crème brûlée are the ideal finish to any meal.

We decided to get a few of the sharing plates.

We went for the Squid, Charcuterie Board and the Napoli Flatbread with Parmesan and Mozzarella.

What We Drank:

Fans of the grape rather than the grain can take a globe-trotting adventure across The Refinery’s over 40 strong wine list.

We got a bottle of Pinot Grigio, Brume di Monte and then some espresso martinis for dessert which were fabulous!

Must-try sips include the comforting Milk & Cookies (Bulleit bourbon, honey, milk and biscuits); the colour-changing La Magia (Don julio tequila, lime, butterfly pea tea and agave); and the warming Gingerbread Man (Ketel one vodka, gingerbread syrup, lime and apricot). All the classics are available too.

We Recommend:

Coming here on a Friday night for Drinks and Nibbles is perfect! Great after work venue and great place for groups!

Our Thoughts:

If you are familiar with the Drake & Morgan Group Venues  you will know exactly what you are going to get!
