Corinthia London

Corinthia London will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special afternoon tea served under the hotel’s 1001-piece Baccarat chandelier. The pastry team has created a menu of Valentines-inspired pâtisserie, including Red velvet cake; Rose, lychee and raspberry verrine; White chocolate and passion fruit choux; and Lemon-rose drizzle cake. The afternoon tea is £80pp including a glass of Laurent-Perrier rosé Champagne or £60pp on its own and will be available from 14-16 February (1pm-6pm)

Launceston Place

Tucked away in Kensington, Launceston Place will be offering a Valentine’s tasting menu in the intimate dining room. Head Chef Ben Murphy’s playful dishes include Egg and soldiers; Presa Iberica, carrot, timur and cracker; and Yuzu, apple, dill (pictured); with vegetarian and vegan menus also available. The special menu will be £100pp with two optional wine flights for £64 or £149pp. The restaurant has partnered with Roja Parfums to create bespoke his and hers cocktails to mark the occasion.

Michelin starred Angler on the 7th floor of the City’s South Place Hotel is well known for its focus on quality fish and seafood. Head Chef Gary Foulkes has created a seven-course tasting menu for Valentine’s Day. Dishes include Dorset crab, avocado, wasabi and pomelo; Cornish turbot, Scottish langoustine, parsley root and chanterelles; and Yorkshire rhubarb, Iranian pistachio cream, sablé Breton and ginger beer. The menu costs £145pp with an optional wine flight for £80.

Sam’s Riverside

Sam’s Riverside launched in November 2019 adjacent to the new Riverside Studios in Hammersmith. Guests can order from the riverside restaurant’s three-course Valentine’s menu which includes Carlingford oysters; Celeriac, chestnut, mushroom and truffle Wellington; and Kir-poached pear; then head to the newly-developed cinema next door for a screening of Emma, the film adaption of Jane Austen’s comedic novel (6pm or 8.45pm). Dine out on small plates to start such as the delicious whisky cured mackerel served with celeriac and horseradish remoulade or try the roast pork belly served with cauliflower, apple, watercress and apple puree. Clos Maggiore

Romantic settings don’t get more splendidly over-the-top than this. Take your pick from the wood-panelled restaurant or the atmospheric conservatory, bedecked in a forest of fake white blossoms that seem to extend into eternity as they bounce off the restaurant’s mirrors. Fairy lights, candles and a fireplace add to the soft focus vibe. On our early evening visit, tables were filled with mature couples and curious tourists. It’s a Provençal-inspired menu, and although à la carte choices are pegged at the sharp end, the pre-theatre menu offering is a bargain. A cavernous bowl of gazpacho topped with crunchy croûtons and diced cucumber blew our socks off (in a good way) with its unashamedly pungent garlicky kick. Satisfyingly filling, a trio of meaty bites – foie gras terrine, herby pork shoulder confit and a tasty kofta – made for a carnivore’s delight. Less memorable, chunky roasted pollock fillet was tender and juicy, but overshadowed by a rich moat of vermouth cream, buttery crushed potatoes and softened leeks (more butter) – not one for the faint-hearted. Service is polished, if a tad austere, and the wine selection seriously impressive.
