Here Are The Future Trends We’ll See In Education

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the education sector greatly. However, the bright part is that it has accelerated the adoption of new technologies. We will see a lot of changes in the education industry soon. Here are the future trends we’ll see:

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a science trying to create machines that can think as we do. Until today, that point hasn’t been reached. But data scientists, software engineers, and computer scientists have developed many algorithms that can simulate some aspects of the human mind like machine learning or natural language processing.

These achievements in AI have already changed our world for the better. Computers can process information much faster than us, and it makes processes across many industries more efficient. In the education sector, companies are using AI to create a more personalized experience for students around the world.

A clear example of this is the language learning platform Duolingo. This company has been using AI to power its app for a few years now. The platform adapts the lesson to the student’s learning pace. It repeats the concepts that it identifies the student is having trouble with and it can change the next exercise after you do each one.

Duolingo also uses gamification on its platform, using a point-based reward system. You will get to new levels after completing all the lessons. With the points won you can buy new lives or new clothes for your avatar. This type of learning can be applied to all levels of education, from preschool to post-graduate. It makes lessons more engaging and interactive.

Collaborative Technology

With the pandemic, most students had to rely on online learning to continue their education. One of the main technologies at play in online learning is collaborative tech. Students need platforms where they can work with other students and teachers as if they were in the same location. It can be online platforms, apps, or programs that allow peer-to-peer interactions.

The most simple example is Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. On these Google platforms, students can all work on the same documents or presentations, leave comments, and correct their team’s work. There are also other learning management tools that teachers and students can use to communicate. All of them are part of the collaborative technology that will become a must in educational institutions in the future.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

These are the technologies that have the most potential to change the education industry forever. Virtual reality is when the user can immerse themselves in a simulated virtual world. With a headset, the software takes over our vision and hearing, making it feel real even when the graphics are clearly virtual. Augmented reality, on the other hand, is when virtual objects are combined with the real world.

You can use a headset to see a dinosaur walking around in your living room or use your smartphone’s camera to do the same. Imagine going to the pyramids in Egypt to learn about history from your home or school—it is possible with VR. In the future, it will be possible to attend classes with virtual reality headsets. Every student and the teacher could be in different locations and meet in virtual classrooms.

Blended Learning

In education, what we will probably see in the next few years is a learning method that mixes in-person classes, online learning, virtual reality experiences, video-based learning, and many other technologies. Our society is changing to adapt to the newest technological advancements every year.

This revolution has also had an impact on how people learn. Kids grow with technology and they expect the same interactions from their learning process too. They expect new lessons all the time and different content to interact with—that’s what they are used to from digital platforms like social media.

In Summary

Education is on the brink of an irreversible change. This year has accelerated the adoption of new technologies in the sector so we probably see substantial changes from now on. Some of the trends we will see are artificial intelligence for more personalization, collaborative technology, virtual and augmented reality, and blended learning. These changes have already started, like AI in online learning. Let’s wait for what else happens in the future.
