Restaurants in London: Eat Your Way Through the Top 12

If you are planning a trip to London, you will probably want to know the best places to eat. After all, you have to eat while you are there, so you may as well go to the best places, right? Of course, since everyone’s tastes are unique, trying various themes is the way to go. Before you head out for a night of eating, lighten your load by dropping off your stuff at one of the London luggage storage spots.

Local Cuisine

If you want to try the local cuisine, you won’t have to look far. Being the capital of England, it makes sense that there are a plethora of British restaurants in the city. From tiny cafés to big, fancy establishments, there is a large variety to choose from.

As the name implies, you can get delicious duck and waffles at this posh place. Located on the 40th floor of the Summit of the Heron Tower, you get an amazing view of the city while you enjoy the award-winning food. The featured dish is a delicious fried duck egg with a crispy duck leg drizzled with maple mustard syrup. They also have seabass, roasted lamb, and corn-fed chicken. Don’t miss the “Full Elvis” for dessert. It is a waffle with peanut butter and jelly, caramelized banana, and Chantilly cream.

For the best fish and chips in the city, Poppies is where to go. If the locals love it, you know it has to be good. And they have more than just fish and chips here. You can also get steak or chicken pie with chips or saveloy, which is a bright red and highly seasoned sausage. For dessert, they have all sorts of puddings, apple pie, and ice cream. You can also add on a bottle of wine or beer to wash it all down with.

You cannot go to London and not try bangers and mash. The Brits love their mashed potatoes, and they pair the side dish with just about everything. This meal is sausage and potatoes and comes in pork, beef, or chicken varieties. Actually, at Mother Mash, you can get whatever you want with your mash and you can have it served in many different ways. Choose whatever kind of mash you want, what type of meat you want with it, and the flavor of gravy to top it all with. And the atmosphere is cozy and fun.

Fancy Foods

A special treat for a special occasion? Or maybe you just want to see how the other half live. To be wined and dined, waited on and spoiled, check out one of these posh places. But make your reservations in advance.

Well, the name says it all, right? It may not be in the actual castle, but it sure feels like it, and you can see the Windsor estate nearby. Between Kensington and Notting Hill, this delightful eatery is famous for its Sunday Roast as well as fish and chips, sirloins, and even cheeseburgers. With ice cream, brownies, or sticky pudding for dessert and a pot of English Tea on the side, you will know you are in England here.

Here, you will find the finest British food in a relaxed atmosphere while still being treated like royalty. And Clare knows her stuff because she has three Michelin stars! Try the roasted monkfish, braised lamb, or Cornish crab. The mutton and seabass are also popular. Their dessert cart features pear sorbet, lemonade parfait, and carrot cake with walnuts and cicely.

In Holland Park, Flat Three is an amazing experience from the minute you walk in the door. Their dishes are inventive and unique, as well as delicious. Don’t miss the giant puffball, Dexter beef rump, or the salt marsh lamb. Flat Three caters well to vegetarians with much of their menu geared toward veggies only with squash, tofu, and edamame, as well as many varieties of mushrooms.

Breakfast

Londoners are serious about breakfast. In fact, it is the most important and largest meal of the day. Try some of these local faves.

Get the Full English Breakfast at the Breakfast Club. This filling food fiesta features toast, potatoes, blood pudding, eggs, and sausages with tomatoes and mushrooms. But they also have pancakes, waffles, burritos, and so much more. Try the banana and caramel pancakes! If you are not an early riser, don’t worry, they serve breakfast all day.

This interesting eatery not only serves great Middle Eastern cuisine, but it also donates meals to those who need it through the National Health Service (NHS). The morning Palestine meal is a delightful scrambled egg dish with dukkah spice and handmade pita bread. And the Middle Eastern French toast is topped with fruit, figs, and yogurt with rose petals. Dine here, and 20% of the profits go to the NHS so you can feel good about how much you spent.

Make sure you have an empty stomach when you come to Dobar because they boast the largest servings in town. If you want eggs, you can have them in many different ways like Florentine with spinach and hollandaise or land & sea eggs with salmon and avocado. But they are most famous for their pancakes with clotted cream, syrup, and fruit. Try the American Dream pancakes with beans, sausage, bacon, and eggs. It’s a decadent dish!

Just Desserts

If you have a sweet tooth that won’t go away, you will love the puddings and crepes the Brits are always raving about. And of course, their waffles are second to none and topped with all sorts of strange and delightful tastes.

From classic flavors to unique twists, the gelato at Prime Gelato is not to be missed. Some of their gelato dishes are made to be a meal, while others are perfect for that sweet snack. They even have vegan gelato. Granted, some are not really sweet, like the smoked salmon or serrano ham. But if you want sweet, they have that covered with fruits, chocolate, vanilla, and many other sweet flavors. They have cake, crepes, and other desserts as well.

At Crumbs & Doilies, you are going to be amazed by the scrumptious combinations and flavors they come up with. From cupcakes filled with cheesecake to cake filled with cream, they must spend a lot of time just thinking up new ideas. Their New York Cookies are famously fantastic, and their cakes range from a tiny cupcake treat to a triple-layer masterpiece. Try the Pinata Cake filled with candy and covered in rainbow sprinkles

For some handmade ice cream like you have never tasted, you have to go to Udderlicious. Not only do they make them by hand every day, but they use fresh cream and local ingredients. Their amazing concoctions range from the traditional chocolate and vanilla to the exquisite Malt & Crushed Maltesers and the totally unique dandelion and burdock. They even have ice cream cake!
